Meet Dr. Matthew J. Stephens

A Northern California native, Dr. Matthew J. Stephens is proud to bring his exceptional care to Sonoma County.

After earning his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, Dr. Stephens went on to attend the UCLA School of Dentistry, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude (top 5% of his class) and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honors society. He received multiple accolades, including the Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery award and the CALAOMS award, given each year to one standout student in oral surgery.

Following dental school, Dr. Stephens completed a rigorous six-year, dual-degree Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the renowned Mount Sinai Health System in New York City. During his training, he developed a strong focus on treating complex dentofacial conditions and performed a wide range of advanced jaw reconstruction procedures. He also earned his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, graduating with distinction for academic excellence, and completed a full General Surgery internship with the Mount Sinai Health System.

Dr. Stephens is a board-certified surgeon of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. He offers a comprehensive range of oral surgery services—from wisdom teeth removal and dental implants to bone grafting, corrective jaw surgery, facial trauma care, and pathology. He’s deeply committed to honest, personalized care and clear, compassionate communication.

When he’s not in the office, Dr. Stephens loves adventuring with his wife—who’s also an oral surgeon—along with their Australian Cattle Dog, Benny. Most weekends, you’ll find the trio exploring local trails, beaches, and all the natural beauty California has to offer.
